Understanding a hand-embellished canvas artwork
An Atelier Delranc piece is neither a standard photo print nor an original oil painting. It starts as a photograph and becomes something else entirely once a hand-finishing process reshapes its surface.
It starts with an original photograph
Every piece begins as an original photograph by Mathieu Delranc, a photographer and creator based in Provence. That image sets the framing, the light and the color balance well before any further transformation happens.
The photograph is then reinterpreted in a painterly language, which pulls its look closer to painting without turning it into one. The construction stays photographic, while the final surface reads as pictorial once it reaches the canvas.
Canvas printing and the texture gel
The reinterpreted image is printed on canvas, a surface that catches light very differently from photo paper and already carries some texture before any manual work begins. That printed canvas is the base for everything that follows.
Each piece is then hand-finished with texture gel. This step builds up relief, adds small variations across the surface, and means no two canvases in an edition read exactly alike once the gel work is done.
What this artwork is not
It is not an original oil painting: there is no oil pigment applied to raw canvas without a photographic image underneath. Mathieu Delranc is not presented as a traditional oil painter, and calling it that would misrepresent the piece.
It is also not a plain photo print: canvas printing is only one step, followed by a hand-embellished canvas process and a satin finish that change how light sits on the surface and how the final object reads in a room.
Signature, numbering and transparency
Every piece is signed, numbered and comes with a certificate confirming its place within the Atelier Delranc collection, a set of ten works. Together these details give buyers a clear line of traceability.
Available sizes follow two ratios: 4:5, from 40 x 50 up to 120 x 150 cm, and 9:16 for one piece, from 45 x 80 up to 107 x 190 cm. Custom sizing is available on request, always within the original ratio. Pricing will be announced at launch.
